Introduction of the Camera: Basic Techniques

Introduction of the Camera: Basic Techniques

I have previously done Photography at A-Level, before beginning this module, through I have no been back using a camera for around six months, so I was lacking the familiarity of the camera and it's different options. I began photographing something similar as the flowers below to familiarise myself with the camera itself and the use of the focus alone.

Examples - Subject

These photographs below are just simple representations of what I was practising the basic use of the camera on, this was my selected subject. The first two photographs are examples are practising using the flash on the camera, as the first image is far brighter than the second, with the second photograph reflecting a lot of darkness surrounding the petals.

Examples - Focus

Below I have experimented with the basic technique of focusing on a camera, using the option of 'Manual Focus', practising using the focus tool by hand. The four photographs show the different stages of focusing, with larger first image showing the subject in a complete blue reflecting that the subject has not been in focus when the photograph was captured. As the photograph process goes on, it becomes clear that the images get more and more in focus each time, becoming clear with the subject is. I aimed to represent the use of 'Manual Focus' on the camera, rather than always resulting to 'Auto Focus'.

Something I have continuously picked up on while using 'Manual Focus' is that the option is better to use when wanting to focus on a single area of a subject and blurring the background completely, whereas by using 'Auto Focus' for this technique it tends to focus the whole image, rather than a selected area you want.
